Ferdinand arrives on holiday. He is very excited. He wants to see the city. He wants to go shopping. But he is very tired. He falls asleep in his hotel room.
Fernando arriva in vacanza. È molto eccitato. Vuole vedere la città. Vuole fare shopping. Ma è molto stanco. Si addormenta nella sua stanza d’albergo.
Ferdinand gets up and leaves the room. But he is not awake. He is sleepwalking!
Fernando si alza e lascia la stanza. Ma non è sveglio. Sta sonnambulando!
He walks down the stairs and into the lobby. His eyes are open, but he is asleep. It’s like a dream.
Scende le scale e arriva nell’ingresso. I suoi occhi sono aperti, ma lui è addormentato. È come un sogno.
“Have a nice day,” says the woman behind the desk.
“Buona giornata,” dice la donna dietro il bancone.
“Cabbages and potatoes!” says Ferdinand. (People say strange things when they are dreaming.)
“Cavoli e patate!” dice Fernando. (Le persone dicono cose strane quando stanno sognando.)
Ferdinand goes outside. It is a beautiful, sunny day. He goes into an ice cream shop.
Fernando esce. È una bellissima giornata di sole. Entra in una gelateria.
“Hello, sir,” says the seller. “Which ice cream would you like?”
“Buongiorno, signore,” dice il venditore. “Quale gelato vorrebbe?”
“Cabbages and potatoes!” says Ferdinand.
“Cavoli e patate!” dice Fernando.
“I’m sorry, sir, we don’t have that flavour. Try this one. It’s chocolate.”
“Mi dispiace, signore, non abbiamo quel gusto. Provi questo. È al cioccolato.”
Ferdinand takes the ice cream. “How much?” Ferdinand asks, slowly.
Fernando prende il gelato. “Quanto costa?” chiede Fernando, lentamente.
“Five,” says the seller.
“Cinque,” dice il venditore.
“Five…” says Ferdinand, slowly.
“Cinque…” dice Fernando, lentamente.
Ferdinand gives the seller his wallet. The seller takes the money from the wallet, and gives it back.
Fernando consegna il suo portafogli al venditore. Il venditore prende i soldi dal portafogli, e lo restituisce.
Ferdinand eats his ice cream while he walks. Then he sees a souvenir shop. He goes inside. He picks up a pretty souvenir.
Fernando mangia il suo gelato mentre cammina. Poi vede un negozio di souvenir. Entra. Prende un bel souvenir.
“How much?” Ferdinand says, slowly.
“Quanto costa?” dice Fernando, lentamente.
“Fifty,” says the shopkeeper.
“Cinquanta,” dice il negoziante.
“Five…” says Ferdinand.
“Cinque…” dice Fernando.
“No, it’s fifty,” says the shopkeeper.
“No, sono cinquanta,” dice il negoziante.
“Five!” says Ferdinand.
“Cinque!” dice Fernando.
“Alright, thirty,” says the shopkeeper.
“Bene, trenta,” dice il negoziante.
“Five!”
“Cinque!”
“Fine!” says the shopkeeper. “You tourists are becoming so clever!”
“Va bene!” dice il negoziante. “Voi turisti diventate sempre più furbi!”
A few hours later… Ferdinand wakes up. He is in his hotel room. He smiles. “Now I can go shopping,” Ferdinand thinks. “I must buy a souvenir. They’re very cheap, here.”
Alcune ore dopo… Fernando si sveglia. È nella sua stanza d’albergo. Sorride. “Ora posso fare shopping,” pensa Fernando. “Devo comprare un souvenir. Qui sono molto economici.”
Ferdinand gets out of bed. He is surprised. His room is full of shopping bags. There are so many shopping bags, he can’t move. He looks in his wallet. It is empty.
Fernando si alza dal letto. È sorpreso. La sua stanza è piena di sacchetti di shopping. Ci sono così tantissimi sacchetti di shopping, non può muoversi. Guarda nel suo portafogli. È vuoto.
There is a note on the table. It says, “We bought all the things you asked for.” It is from the hotel staff.
C’è un biglietto sul tavolo. Dice: “Abbiamo comprato tutte le cose che hai chiesto.” È dal personale dell’hotel.
Ferdinand looks in the shopping bags. They are all full of cabbages and potatoes.
Fernando guarda nei sacchetti di shopping. Sono tutti pieni di cavoli e patate.
