“Non andare in vacanza.”
“Don’t go on holiday.”
Frederica legge il messaggio sul suo telefono.
Fredericka reads the message on her phone.
“Chi è?” scrive.
“Who is this?” she writes.
“Non posso dirtelo.”
“I can’t tell you.”
Frederica ride. “Bello scherzo,” scrive.
Fredericka laughs. “Good joke,” she writes.
Frederica mette giù il telefono. Riflette per un momento. Al lavoro, il suo assistente è sempre molto spiritoso. Deve essere il suo assistente.
Fredericka puts down her phone. She thinks. Her assistant at work is always very funny. It must be her assistant.
Arriva un altro messaggio. “Non mangiare il panino.”
There’s another message. “Don’t eat the sandwich.”
Frederica guarda il suo panino. È un panino con prosciutto, lattuga e pomodori. È su un piatto, sul tavolo.
Fredericka looks at her sandwich. It’s a ham sandwich, with lettuce and tomatoes. It’s on a plate, on the table.
‘Deve essere il mio assistente,’ pensa Frederica. ‘Sa che mangio sempre un panino a pranzo.’
‘It must be my assistant,’ Fredericka thinks. ‘She knows I always eat a sandwich for lunch.’
Frederica ha fame. Mangia il panino.
Fredericka is hungry. She eats the sandwich.
Il giorno dopo, Frederica sta molto male. Frederica non va al lavoro. Rimane a casa.
The next day, Fredericka is ill. Fredericka doesn’t go to work. She stays at home.
Il suo telefono emette un suono. C’è un nuovo messaggio. “Adesso mi credi?”
Her phone makes a sound. There’s a new message. “Now do you believe me?”
“Smettila con questo gioco,” scrive Frederica.
“Stop this game,” Fredericka writes.
“Non andare in vacanza.”
“Don’t go on holiday.”
“Perché no?”
“Why not?”
“Non posso dirtelo.”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Perché no?”
“Why not?”

Frederica vuole andare in vacanza. Sta seguendo un progetto al lavoro molto difficile. Ha veramente bisogno di rilassarsi in vacanze.
Fredericka wants to go on holiday. There is a project at work that is very difficult. She needs to relax.
Frederica compra un biglietto. Poi prepara la valigia. Mette gli occhiali da sole, il costume da bagno e il suo libro preferito.
Fredericka buys her ticket. Then she packs her suitcase. She packs her sunglasses, her swimming costume and her favourite book.
Nel fine settimana, Frederica va alla stazione per prendere il treno. Va in aeroporto. In aeroporto, riceve un nuovo messaggio.
At the weekend, Fredericka goes to the train station. She travels to the airport. At the airport, she receives a new message.
“Per favore, stai attenta in piscina.”
“Please be careful at the swimming pool.”
Frederica spegne il telefono.
Fredericka turns off her phone.
Frederica arriva al villaggio turistico. È una giornata calda e soleggiata. C’è una lussuosa piscina fuori dal suo hotel. È entusiasta. Indossa gli occhiali da sole e il costume da bagno.
Fredericka arrives at the resort. It’s a warm, sunny day. There is a luxurious swimming pool outside her hotel. She is excited. She puts on her sunglasses and her swimming costume.
Va in piscina. Il bordo della piscina è molto bagnato. Improvvisamente, cade. Si fa male. Molte persone vengono ad aiutarla. La portano in ospedale.
She goes to the pool. The side of the pool is very wet. Suddenly, she falls. She is hurt. Many people come to help. They take her to the hospital.
Si sveglia nel letto dell’ospedale. Non può muoversi. Il dottore dice che deve riposare.
She wakes up in bed. She can’t move. The doctor says she must rest.
Un anno dopo, Frederica finalmente torna al lavoro. È in sedia a rotelle.
One year later, Fredericka goes to work. She is in a wheelchair.
“Bentornata,” dice il suo assistente. “Mi dispiace per il tuo incidente. Ma c’è una buona notizia: il progetto segreto è ora completato.”
“Welcome back,” says her assistant. “I’m sorry about your accident. But there is some good news: the secret project is now complete.”
“Come?” chiede Frederica.
“How?” asks Fredericka.
“È impossibile mandare gli umani attraverso il tempo, giusto?” dice l’assistente.
“It’s impossible to send humans through time, right?” says the assistant.
“Questa è la mia teoria, sì.”
“That’s my theory, yes.”
“La tua teoria è corretta. Ma possiamo mandare messaggi attraverso il tempo!”
“Your theory is correct. But we can send messages through time!”
“Fammi vedere i calcoli,” dice Frederica.
“Show me the calculations,” says Fredericka.
Il suo assistente le dà i documenti.
Her assistant gives her the papers.
“Capisco,” dice Frederica. “Il messaggio non deve rivelare che viene dal futuro.”
“I see,” says Fredericka. “The message mustn’t reveal that it’s from the future.”
“Esattamente,” dice l’assistente. “È importante per la sicurezza.”
“Exactly,” says the assistant. “That’s important for safety.”
“Ottimo lavoro. Prepara subito il primo test.” Frederica dà il suo telefono all’assistente. “Ecco la lista dei messaggi.”
“Excellent work. Prepare the first test immediately.” Fredericka gives her phone to the assistant. “Here is the list of messages.”
