“Sei pronta?” grida il marito di Elisa.
“Are you ready?” shouts Eliza’s husband.
“Sto scegliendo i miei vestiti,” risponde lei.
“I’m choosing my clothes,” she replies.
“Ma sono passate due ore!”
“But it’s been two hours!”
Elisa usa un po’ di profumo. È pronta per la festa con le sue amiche. Scende le scale e va in cucina.
Eliza uses some perfume. She is ready for the party with her friends. She goes downstairs and into the kitchen.
Urta il ginocchio contro la sedia.
She hits her knee on the chair.
“Ahi!” grida.
“Ouch!” she shouts.
“Cosa?”
“What?”
“Niente!”
“Nothing!”
“Elisa, devi mettere i tuoi nuovi occhiali,” dice il marito. “Sono ancora nella scatola.”
“Eliza, you have to wear your new glasses,” says her husband. “They are still in the box.”
“Non ho bisogno di occhiali.”
“I don’t need glasses.”
“Sono qui, tesoro,” dice il marito.
“I’m over here, darling,” her husband says.
“Non mi piacciono i miei occhiali.”
“I don’t like my glasses.”
“Sono molto eleganti. Sei molto carina con gli occhiali.”
“They are very elegant. You look very pretty with glasses.”
Elisa non risponde. Va in sala da pranzo. Tutto è pronto per i suoi ospiti. Mette dei fiori nei vasi, e sistema i cuscini sui divani.
Eliza doesn’t respond. She goes to the dining room. Everything is ready for her guests. She puts some flowers in the vases, and she tidies the cushions on the sofas.
Il marito entra.
Her husband comes in.
“Perché hai fatto così?” chiede.
“Why have you done that?” he asks.
“Cosa intendi?”
“What do you mean?”
“C’è un fiore nel bicchiere di ogni persona. E tutti i cuscini sono sul tavolino.”
“There is a flower in each person’s drink. And all the cushions are on the coffee table.”
“È il nuovo stile,” dice velocemente Elisa. “È molto moderno.”
“That’s the new style,” Eliza says quickly. “It’s very modern.”
Il marito la saluta. La festa è per Elisa e le sue amiche. “Divertiti con il film,” dice Elisa. Il marito se ne va. Va al cinema.
Her husband says goodbye. The party is for Eliza and her friends. “Enjoy the film,” says Eliza. Her husband leaves. He goes to the cinema.
Un po’ più tardi, Elisa sente il campanello. Vuole aprire la porta, ma non trova la chiave.
A little while later, Eliza hears the doorbell. She wants to open the door, but she can’t find the key.
Prende una scatola dalla sua borsa. Tira fuori i suoi nuovi occhiali dalla scatola. Mette gli occhiali. Ora vede chiaramente. Apre la porta.
She takes a box out of her handbag. She takes her new glasses out of the box. She puts on the glasses. Now, she can see clearly. She opens the door.
“Adoro i tuoi nuovi occhiali!” dice la sua amica.
“I love your new glasses!” says her friend.
Elisa e le sue amiche fanno una festa meravigliosa. Prima di andarsene, tutti dicono che Elisa è bellissima con i suoi nuovi occhiali.
Eliza and her friends have a wonderful party. Before they leave, everyone says that Eliza looks beautiful with her new glasses.
Quella notte, il marito di Elisa torna a casa.
That night, Eliza’s husband comes home.
“Bentornato a casa—Oh!” dice Elisa.
“Welcome home—Oh!” says Eliza.
Smette di sorridere e corre nel salotto. Anche il marito corre nel salotto. Sembra molto preoccupato.
She stops smiling and runs into the lounge. Her husband runs into the lounge as well. He looks very worried.
“Cosa c’è che non va?” chiede.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Niente,” dice Elisa. “È solo che… non mi ero resa conto…”
“Nothing,” says Eliza. “It’s just that… I didn’t realise…”
“Resa conto di cosa?”
“Realise what?”
Elisa toglie gli occhiali. Sorride. Bacia il marito.
Eliza takes off her glasses. She smiles. She kisses her husband.
“Sei così bello,” dice.
“You’re so handsome,” she says.
