Édith n’aimait pas la quantité de technologie présente ces jours-ci. Quand elle était jeune, les choses étaient beaucoup plus simples. Maintenant, tout avait une batterie, des lumières clignotantes, ou de l’intelligence artificielle. C’était trop pour elle.
Edith didn’t like how much technology there was these days. When she was young, things were much simpler. Now, everything had a battery, or flashing lights, or artificial intelligence. It was all too much for her.
Un jour, Édith a visité la boulangerie locale. Mais au lieu de son ami le boulanger, elle a été accueillie par un assistant robotique brillant.
One day Edith visited the local bakery. But instead of her friend the baker, she was greeted by a shiny robotic assistant.
“Qui êtes-vous ?” a-t-elle demandé. “Qu’est-ce que vous êtes ?”
“Who are you?” she asked. “What are you?”
L’assistant robotique a répondu, “Bonjour Madame. Je suis le robot boulanger. Je suis ici pendant que le boulanger humain est en vacances. Je promets que je vais offrir le même niveau de service que vous avez l’habitude.”
The robotic assistant replied, “Hello Madam. I am the robot baker. I am here while the human baker is on holiday. I promise I will offer the same level of service that you are used to.”
Édith n’a pas du tout aimé cela.
Edith did not like this at all.
“Je vais prendre une miche de pain, s’il vous plaît,” Édith a grommelé.
“I’ll have a loaf of bread, please,” Edith grumbled.
“Certainement, puis-je scanner votre œil pour le paiement ?” le robot a répondu, et un outil pointu est sortie de son corps et vers son visage.
“Certainly, may I scan your eye for payment?” the robot responded, and a sharp tool came out of its body and towards her face.
“Reculez !” elle a crié, sautant en arrière. “Qu’est-ce qu’il y a de mal avec un billet de banque ?”
“Get away!” she shouted, jumping backward. “What’s wrong with a bank note?”
Le robot a cligné ses lumières LED, apparemment confus. “Je suis désolé, mais nous n’acceptons que les paiements électroniques, avec vérification oculaire,” il a expliqué.
The robot blinked its LED lights, seemingly confused. “I’m sorry, but we only accept electronic payments, with eye verification,” it explained.
“C’est de la folie ! Je veux juste acheter du pain !”
“This is madness! I just want to buy some bread!”
“Je m’excuse Madame. Nous offrons une alternative,” a dit le robot.
“I apologise Madam. We do offer an alternative,” said the robot.
“Qu’est-ce que c’est ?” Édith a demandé.
“What’s that?” Edith asked.
“Si vous écoutez trois publicités et partagez notre page sur les médias sociaux, vous pouvez avoir une miche de pain gratuitement,” le robot a dit joyeusement.
“If you listen to three adverts and share our page on social media, you can have a loaf of bread for free,” the robot said happily.
Édith s’est tournée et a quitté le magasin sans rien dire d’autre.
Edith turned and stormed out of the store without saying anything else.
Alors qu’elle rentrait chez elle, son téléphone a sonné. Elle a vu que c’était un appel de son amie, le boulanger.
As she made her way home, her phone rang. She saw it was a call from her friend, the baker.
“Alors, tu profites de tes vacances pendant que la technologie s’empare de tout, hein ?” Édith a crié dans le téléphone.
“So, enjoying your holiday while technology takes over, huh?” Edith shouted into the phone.
“En fait, je suis toujours coincé à l’aéroport !” le boulanger a pleuré. “Ils ne laisseront personne voler sans puce électronique dans la tête !”
“Actually, I’m still stuck at the airport!” cried the baker. “They won’t let anyone fly without a microchip in their head!”
