Claire était une astronome dévouée, toujours à observer les cieux. Une nuit, elle a repéré un énorme météore qui semblait se rapprocher de la Terre.
Clare was a dedicated astronomer, always watching the skies. One night, she spotted a huge meteor that seemed to be getting closer to Earth.
“Il vient droit sur nous !” s’est-elle exclamée.
“It’s coming right at us!” she exclaimed.
Elle a envoyé un email à ses collègues à ce sujet. De nombreux jours ont passé et aucun d’eux n’a répondu. Quand elle leur a demandé en personne, ils ont dit qu’ils ne la croyaient pas.
She emailed her colleagues about it. Many days passed, and none of them responded. When she asked them in person, they said they didn’t believe her.
Claire a décidé de construire une fusée. “Au moins, j’échapperai !” a-t-elle déclaré.
Clare decided to build a rocket. “At least I will escape!” she declared.
Pendant la journée, elle travaillait sur sa fusée. La nuit, elle préparait ses bagages et planifiait son voyage vers les étoiles.
During the day she worked on her rocket. At night, she packed her bags and planned her journey to the stars.
Enfin, c’était le jour du lancement. Tremblante, Claire est montée dans sa fusée et a décollé dans l’espace.
Finally, it was the day of the launch. Trembling, Clare climbed into her rocket and soared into space.
Elle contemplait les étoiles – sa nouvelle maison. Puis le météore est passé devant sa fenêtre.
She gazed into the stars – her new home. Then the meteor passed in front of her window.
Claire a regardé le météore, et a réalisé quelque chose. Ce n’était pas un météore du tout – c’était un satellite !
Clare looked at the meteor, and realised something. It wasn’t a meteor at all – it was a satellite!
“Attendez une minute,” a-t-elle dit, en regardant de plus près. “C’est le Gardien de l’Espace, le satellite perdu conçu pour identifier les météores dangereux !”
“Wait a minute,” she said, looking closer. “This is the Space Guard, the lost satellite designed to identify dangerous meteors!”
Claire a enfilé sa combinaison et est sortie dans l’espace avec ses outils. Elle a volé jusqu’au satellite, et a commencé à travailler. Finalement, elle a réussi à redémarrer le satellite. Elle l’a remis en route pour sa mission.
Clare put on her suit and went into space with her tools. She flew over to the satellite, and began to work. Eventually, she managed to restart the satellite. She sent it back on its mission.
Quand elle est revenue sur Terre, elle a été accueillie avec surprise et admiration.
When she returned to Earth, she was greeted with surprise and admiration.
“Claire,” a dit un scientifique, “parce que tu as réparé le Gardien de l’Espace, nous avons pu identifier un objet dangereux. Il venait vers la Terre à une vitesse incroyable. Avec le Gardien de l’Espace, nous avons pu l’arrêter !”
“Clare,” said one scientist, “because you fixed the Space Guard, we were able to identify a dangerous object. It was coming towards the Earth at incredible speed. With the Space Guard, we were able to stop it!”
Claire était devenue une scientifique célèbre. Et elle avait appris qu’un malentendu peut mener à de grandes choses – si on peut regarder au-delà des étoiles.
Clare had become a famous scientist. And she had learned that even a misunderstanding can lead to great things – if you can look beyond the stars.
