“Per favore puoi alzarti un attimo?” ha detto Gerardo alla sua ragazza.
“Please can you get up, for a moment?” said Gerard to his girlfriend.
Lei era seduta sul divano, a leggere le sue lettere. Non lo sentì. Gerardo stava usando l’aspirapolvere. Ha cominciato a pulire il divano.
She was sitting on the sofa, reading her letters. She didn’t hear him. Gerard was using the vacuum cleaner. He started to clean the sofa.
“Scusa!” ha detto la sua ragazza.
“Sorry!” said his girlfriend.
Ha posato le sue lettere e si è alzata. Gerardo ha pulito tutti i cuscini sul divano.
She put down her letters and stood up. Gerard cleaned all of the cushions on the sofa.
La sua ragazza voleva riprendere le sue lettere, ma Gerardo le ha spostate. Ha usato un panno per pulire il tavolo.
His girlfriend tried to pick up her letters, but Gerard moved them. He used a cloth to wipe the table.
“Grazie,” ha detto Gerardo. L’ha baciata.
“Thank you,” said Gerard. He kissed her.
“So che ti piace quando il nostro appartamento è molto pulito,” ha detto lei. “Ma è sabato. Perché non ti rilassi?”
“I know you like it when our flat is very clean,” she said. “But it’s Saturday. Why don’t you relax?”
“È il primo giorno del mese,” ha spiegato Gerardo.
“It’s the first day of the month,” Gerard explained.
“Certo,” ha risposto lei. “Ogni mese pulisci tutta la casa. Va bene, come posso aiutare?”
“Of course,” she replied. “Every month, you clean the whole house. Alright, how can I help?”
Gerardo le ha detto di pulire la sua scrivania. Quando lei ha finito, le ha detto di pulire tutti i rubinetti. Poi le ha detto di lavare tutte le tende.
Gerard told her to wipe her desk. When she finished, he told her to wipe all the taps. Then he told her to wash all the curtains.
“Abbiamo finito?” ha chiesto lei, qualche ora dopo.
“Are we finished?” she asked, a few hours later.
“È il primo giorno di primavera,” ha spiegato Gerardo.
“It’s the first day of spring,” Gerard explained.
“Certo. Ogni primavera…”
“Of course. Every spring…”
“Dobbiamo lavare i tappeti.”
“We have to wash the carpets.”
Hanno spostato tutti i mobili fuori dalla stanza. Hanno messo il tavolo in cucina, il divano in camera da letto e le piante in bagno.
They pushed all the furniture out of the room. They put the table in the kitchen, the sofa in the bedroom and the plants in the bathroom.
Gerardo ha portato acqua e sapone, due spugne e due asciugacapelli.
Gerard brought water and soap, two sponges, and two hair dryers.
Lui e la sua ragazza hanno lavorato tutto il pomeriggio e tutta la sera. Finalmente, hanno rimesso tutti i mobili nella stanza.
He and his girlfriend worked all afternoon and all evening. Finally, they pushed all the furniture back into the room.
“Ora, abbiamo finito!” ha detto Gerardo alla fine.
“Now, we are finished!” said Gerard at last.
Erano molto stanchi. I loro vestiti erano sporchi. Avevano sapone su braccia e gambe. Si sono seduti sul divano.
They were very tired. Their clothes were dirty. There was soap on their arms and legs. They sat down on the sofa.
Alla fine, la sua ragazza ha ripreso in mano le sue lettere.
Finally, his girlfriend picked up her letters again.
“Questa è dal nostro padrone di casa,” ha detto.
“This one is from our landlord,” she said.
“Cosa dice?”
“What does it say?”
“Dobbiamo andarcene in un mese!” ha esclamato. “E – e –”
“We have to leave in one month!” she cried. “And – and –”
“Cosa c’è?” ha esclamato Gerardo.
“What is it?” cried Gerard.
“Dobbiamo pagare una ditta per lavare i tappeti prima di andarcene.”
“We have to pay for a company to wash the carpets before we leave.”
