“Você está pronta?” grita o marido de Elisa.
“Are you ready?” shouts Eliza’s husband.
“Estou escolhendo minhas roupas,” ela responde.
“I’m choosing my clothes,” she replies.
“Mas já faz duas horas!”
“But it’s been two hours!”
Elisa usa um pouco de perfume. Ela está pronta para a festa com seus amigos. Ela desce e vai para a cozinha.
Eliza uses some perfume. She is ready for the party with her friends. She goes downstairs and into the kitchen.
Ela bate o joelho na cadeira.
She hits her knee on the chair.
“Ai!” ela grita.
“Ouch!” she shouts.
“O quê?”
“What?”
“Nada!”
“Nothing!”
“Elisa, você tem que usar seus óculos novos,” diz o marido dela. “Eles ainda estão na caixa.”
“Eliza, you have to wear your new glasses,” says her husband. “They are still in the box.”
“Eu não preciso de óculos.”
“I don’t need glasses.”
“Eu estou aqui, querida,” diz o marido dela.
“I’m over here, darling,” her husband says.
“Eu não gosto dos meus óculos.”
“I don’t like my glasses.”
“Eles são muito elegantes. Você fica muito bonita com óculos.”
“They are very elegant. You look very pretty with glasses.”
Elisa não responde. Ela vai para a sala de jantar. Tudo está pronto para seus convidados. Ela coloca algumas flores nos vasos e arruma as almofadas nos sofás.
Eliza doesn’t respond. She goes to the dining room. Everything is ready for her guests. She puts some flowers in the vases, and she tidies the cushions on the sofas.
O marido dela entra.
Her husband comes in.
“Por que você fez isso?” ele pergunta.
“Why have you done that?” he asks.
“Como assim?”
“What do you mean?”
“Tem uma flor na bebida de cada pessoa. E todas as almofadas estão na mesa de centro.”
“There is a flower in each person’s drink. And all the cushions are on the coffee table.”
“Esse é o novo estilo,” Elisa diz rapidamente. “É muito moderno.”
“That’s the new style,” Eliza says quickly. “It’s very modern.”
O marido dela se despede. A festa é para Elisa e seus amigos. “Aproveite o filme,” diz Elisa. O marido dela sai. Ele vai ao cinema.
Her husband says goodbye. The party is for Eliza and her friends. “Enjoy the film,” says Eliza. Her husband leaves. He goes to the cinema.
Pouco tempo depois, Elisa ouve a campainha. Ela quer abrir a porta, mas não consegue achar a chave.
A little while later, Eliza hears the doorbell. She wants to open the door, but she can’t find the key.
Ela tira uma caixa da sua bolsa. Ela tira seus óculos novos da caixa. Ela coloca os óculos. Agora, ela consegue ver claramente. Ela abre a porta.
She takes a box out of her handbag. She takes her new glasses out of the box. She puts on the glasses. Now, she can see clearly. She opens the door.
“Eu amei seus óculos novos!” diz a amiga dela.
“I love your new glasses!” says her friend.
Elisa e seus amigos têm uma festa maravilhosa. Antes de eles irem embora, todos dizem que Elisa está linda com seus novos óculos.
Eliza and her friends have a wonderful party. Before they leave, everyone says that Eliza looks beautiful with her new glasses.
Naquela noite, o marido de Elisa volta para casa.
That night, Eliza’s husband comes home.
“Bem-vindo… Oh!” diz Elisa.
“Welcome home—Oh!” says Eliza.
Ela para de sorrir e corre para a sala. O marido dela corre para a sala também. Ele parece muito preocupado.
She stops smiling and runs into the lounge. Her husband runs into the lounge as well. He looks very worried.
“O que tem de errado?” ele pergunta.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Nada,” diz Elisa. “É só que… eu não tinha percebido…”
“Nothing,” says Eliza. “It’s just that… I didn’t realise…”
“Percebido o quê?”
“Realise what?”
Elisa tira os óculos. Ela sorri. Ela beija o marido.
Eliza takes off her glasses. She smiles. She kisses her husband.
“Você é tão bonito,” ela diz.
“You’re so handsome,” she says.
