“Não saia de férias.”
“Don’t go on holiday.”
Frederica lê a mensagem no celular dela.
Fredericka reads the message on her phone.
“Quem é você?” ela escreve.
“Who is this?” she writes.
“Não posso dizer para você.”
“I can’t tell you.”
Frederica ri. “Boa piada,” ela escreve.
Fredericka laughs. “Good joke,” she writes.
Frederica larga o celular. Ela pensa. Sua assistente no trabalho é sempre muito engraçada. Deve ser a assistente dela.
Fredericka puts down her phone. She thinks. Her assistant at work is always very funny. It must be her assistant.
Tem outra mensagem. “Não coma o sanduíche.”
There’s another message. “Don’t eat the sandwich.”
Frederica olha para o sanduíche. É um sanduíche de presunto, com alface e tomate. Ele está em um prato sobre a mesa.
Fredericka looks at her sandwich. It’s a ham sandwich, with lettuce and tomatoes. It’s on a plate, on the table.
‘Deve ser minha assistente,’ pensa Frederica. ‘Ela sabe que sempre como um sanduíche para almoçar.’
‘It must be my assistant,’ Fredericka thinks. ‘She knows I always eat a sandwich for lunch.’
Frederica está com fome. Ela come o sanduíche.
Fredericka is hungry. She eats the sandwich.
No dia seguinte, Frederica fica doente. Frederica não vai ao trabalho. Ela fica em casa.
The next day, Fredericka is ill. Fredericka doesn’t go to work. She stays at home.
O celular toca. Tem uma nova mensagem. “Agora você acredita em mim?”
Her phone makes a sound. There’s a new message. “Now do you believe me?”
“Pare com esse jogo,” escreve Frederica.
“Stop this game,” Fredericka writes.
“Não saia de férias.”
“Don’t go on holiday.”
“Por que não?”
“Why not?”
“Eu não posso dizer para você.”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Por que não?”
“Why not?”
“Eu não posso te dizer.”
“I can’t tell you.”
Frederica quer sair de férias. Tem um projeto no trabalho que é muito difícil. Ela precisa relaxar.
Fredericka wants to go on holiday. There is a project at work that is very difficult. She needs to relax.
Frederica compra sua passagem. Em seguida, ela arruma sua mala. Ela coloca na mala seus óculos de sol, sua roupa de banho e o livro favorito dela.
Fredericka buys her ticket. Then she packs her suitcase. She packs her sunglasses, her swimming costume and her favourite book.
No fim de semana, Frederica vai até a estação de trem. Ela viaja para o aeroporto. No aeroporto, ela recebe uma nova mensagem.
At the weekend, Fredericka goes to the train station. She travels to the airport. At the airport, she receives a new message.
“Por favor, tenha cuidado na piscina.”
“Please be careful at the swimming pool.”
Frederica desliga o celular.
Fredericka turns off her phone.
Frederica chega ao resort. É um dia quente e ensolarado. Tem uma piscina luxuosa no lado de fora do hotel. Ela está animada. Ela coloca seus óculos de sol e sua roupa de banho.
Fredericka arrives at the resort. It’s a warm, sunny day. There is a luxurious swimming pool outside her hotel. She is excited. She puts on her sunglasses and her swimming costume.
Ela vai até a piscina. A borda da piscina está muito molhada. De repente, ela cai. Ela se machuca. Muitas pessoas vêm ajudar. Eles a levam para o hospital.
She goes to the pool. The side of the pool is very wet. Suddenly, she falls. She is hurt. Many people come to help. They take her to the hospital.
Ela acorda na cama. Não consegue se mover. O médico diz que ela deve descansar.
She wakes up in bed. She can’t move. The doctor says she must rest.
Um ano depois, Frederica vai ao trabalho. Ela está em uma cadeira de rodas.
One year later, Fredericka goes to work. She is in a wheelchair.
“Bem-vinda de volta,” diz sua assistente. “Sinto muito pelo seu acidente. Mas há boas notícias: o projeto secreto está completo agora.”
“Welcome back,” says her assistant. “I’m sorry about your accident. But there is some good news: the secret project is now complete.”
“Como?” pergunta Frederica.
“How?” asks Fredericka.
“É impossível enviar humanos através do tempo, certo?” diz a assistente.
“It’s impossible to send humans through time, right?” says the assistant.
“Essa é a minha teoria, sim.”
“That’s my theory, yes.”
“Sua teoria está correta. Mas nós podemos enviar mensagens através do tempo!”
“Your theory is correct. But we can send messages through time!”
“Me mostra os cálculos,” diz Frederica.
“Show me the calculations,” says Fredericka.
Sua assistente dá os papéis para ela.
Her assistant gives her the papers.
“Entendi,” diz Frederica. “A mensagem não deve revelar que é do futuro.”
“I see,” says Fredericka. “The message mustn’t reveal that it’s from the future.”
“Exatamente,” diz a assistente. “Isso é importante para a segurança.”
“Exactly,” says the assistant. “That’s important for safety.”
“Excelente trabalho. Prepare o primeiro teste imediatamente.” Frederica entrega o celular dela para a assistente. “Aqui está a lista de mensagens.”
“Excellent work. Prepare the first test immediately.” Fredericka gives her phone to the assistant. “Here is the list of messages.”
