Chiara era un’astronoma dedicata, sempre a guardare il cielo. Una notte, ha avvistato un enorme meteorite che sembrava avvicinarsi sempre di più alla Terra.
Clare was a dedicated astronomer, always watching the skies. One night, she spotted a huge meteor that seemed to be getting closer to Earth.
“Sta venendo direttamente verso di noi!” ha esclamato.
“It’s coming right at us!” she exclaimed.
Ha inviato un’e-mail ai suoi colleghi a riguardo. Sono passati molti giorni, e nessuno di loro ha risposto. Quando li ha chiesti di persona, hanno detto che non le credevano.
She emailed her colleagues about it. Many days passed, and none of them responded. When she asked them in person, they said they didn’t believe her.
Chiara ha deciso di costruire un razzo. “Almeno io scapperò!” ha dichiarato.
Clare decided to build a rocket. “At least I will escape!” she declared.
Durante il giorno lavorava al suo razzo. Di notte, faceva le valigie e pianificava il suo viaggio verso le stelle.
During the day she worked on her rocket. At night, she packed her bags and planned her journey to the stars.
Finalmente, è arrivato il giorno del lancio. Tremante, Chiara è salita sul suo razzo e si è innalzata nello spazio.
Finally, it was the day of the launch. Trembling, Clare climbed into her rocket and soared into space.
Guardava le stelle – la sua nuova casa. Poi il meteorite è passato davanti alla sua finestra.
She gazed into the stars – her new home. Then the meteor passed in front of her window.
Chiara ha guardato il meteorite, e ha capito qualcosa. Non era affatto un meteorite – era un satellite!
Clare looked at the meteor, and realised something. It wasn’t a meteor at all – it was a satellite!
“Un attimo,” ha detto, guardando più da vicino. “Questo è il Guardiano Spaziale, il satellite perduto progettato per identificare meteore pericolose!”
“Wait a minute,” she said, looking closer. “This is the Space Guard, the lost satellite designed to identify dangerous meteors!”
Chiara ha indossato la sua tuta e è uscita nello spazio con i suoi attrezzi. È volata verso il satellite e ha iniziato a lavorare. Alla fine, è riuscita a riavviare il satellite. Lo ha rimandato nella sua missione.
Clare put on her suit and went into space with her tools. She flew over to the satellite, and began to work. Eventually, she managed to restart the satellite. She sent it back on its mission.
Quando è tornata sulla Terra, è stata ricevuta con sorpresa e ammirazione.
When she returned to Earth, she was greeted with surprise and admiration.
“Chiara,” ha detto uno scienziato, “perché hai riparato il Guardiano Spaziale, siamo riusciti a identificare un oggetto pericoloso. Stava venendo verso la Terra a una velocità incredibile. Con il Guardiano Spaziale, siamo riusciti a fermarlo!”
“Clare,” said one scientist, “because you fixed the Space Guard, we were able to identify a dangerous object. It was coming towards the Earth at incredible speed. With the Space Guard, we were able to stop it!”
Chiara era diventata una scienziata famosa. E aveva imparato che anche un malinteso può portare a grandi cose – se si riesce a guardare oltre le stelle.
Clare had become a famous scientist. And she had learned that even a misunderstanding can lead to great things – if you can look beyond the stars.
